Misfire with error code 00533

I have recently bought a 1997 1L Seat Ibiza, which is running roughly and only doing about 27 miles per gallon. Plug leads, cap and arm look OK, compression is OK, so I thought she may be in get you home mode, but I have attaches a VAG-com to a laptop and the only error found is "00533 -- Idle speed regulation, 09-00 adaption limit surpassed" which I think means she is running a little rough.
Has anyone any ideas where to start?

clean out the throttle,then reset the adaptation "learnt values"back to their original state.any decent up 2date diagnostic will b able to do this.then erase any fault codes.
