Just thought it would be interesting to see what people pay for their services.

I got quoted £90 for an oil change on a 97 A4 1.9 tdi, is this cheap/expensive. To have the fuel and air would have been £100 more.

I did my own oil change, oil filter and air filter cost £57 (fuel filter an extra £12) which included Castrol GTD (VW505 rated) oil, so if you include the labour £90 isn't bad.

The air filter is easy 5min job to change, an hour for oil if you use engine flush and take your time (took me longer to remove the plastic tray than drain the oil!!) . Fuel filter a little more tricky. But doable. Buy a Haynes manual (£18) well spent money IMO.

I would suggest 3 hours max to do all 3 items which would equate at 190-oil/oilfilter/air filter/and fuel filter= £121 / 3 = £40 hour (The mechanic does have to make a living). not bad. I allways do my own oil changes and filters, but usally leave things like timming belts etc to professionals.

Rob :D

PS don't forget the new copper washer for the drain plug, stops those little drips from driving you mad!!!

bought the bits £7 air £7 oil filter £25 fuel (Avant size). Went to an Audi specialist in Nottingham - to get the Oil done and PAS belt replaced was about £60... Excellent customer service - how garages used to be_ I even got another car for the day.

This might be useful for anyone in the Notts area :biglaugh:

Hi, why dont guys get to know theyr cars a bit better and get dirty! Get a 13mm spaner and a flat screwdriver and do-it-yourself ! Spend the left over cash on some fully synthetic oil and when you done open a beer. Dont bother using engine flush as the syntetic oil has powerfull detergents in it. It pays to have a better engine oil as its longer lasting than mineral or part synthetic one. It takes longer to remove the engine undershield than draining the oil. Just remember the oil will drain quicker if you warm up the engine first but be carefull not to scald yourself.
