could be a fault on the impact sensor in the door itself .

i used to make the main airbag circuit board also the side impact circuit boards for toyota , vw.fiat ,mercedes benz and a few others .

ask at the dealers for a reset and price the part , cant see it costing much , i used to churn them out by the 1000's

good luck .

Hi vw754
Hope you dont mind me asking but how did you go on with the side impact airbag fault.
My A4 Avant 2002 has just come up with a similar fault traced by a local garage as drivers side bag problem and they say they have to get into the drivers side bulk head to get at it and check wiring/sensor. Was it a big job and is all OK now.
Thanks for your time
John

Apparently after 2002 audi changed the connectors to the seat airbag and these come undone, audi repaired it for around £130 all inc.

It'll say something like ''drivers side, side airbag igniter.
