I need to change the front brake disc and pads on my Mk3 Golf Gti 8v but having great difficulties removing the two nuts that secure the caliper to the swivel hub. Can anyone help. I know they possibly use a thread locking solution on the nuts when they were first fitted, could this be why they are not getting loose. What can I do? Also, can you confirm they are loosen by anti-clockwise turn. Thanks

Hello and welcome. They shouldn't have thread lock on them, they have grooves in the back of the head that bite into the metal and these should be cleaned out if you want to re-use the bolt. They are torqued up to 125Nm.

Thanks Crasher, appreciated. What is the best way of cleaning out the grooves? Also, would I need to do anything to the bolts to safely reuse them or just refit and torque appropriately?

I use the bench grinders wire brush, it cleans the rust from the grooves in seconds but I also stock new bolts.
