Hi all,

I picked up a Golf 8 Style 1.5 recently, thought I would share couple of initial observations in case they are of use! Coming from a 1.6 diesel 1 series so unable to compare to previous golf models.

Optional extras: moonstone grey, ventura wheels, reversing camera, winter pack

Mpg: avg around 54.5 with mostly national speed limit roads and dual carriageways, using acc and travel assist often (the novelty hasn't worm off yet)

The cabin is a really nice place to be, for me at least! The instrument cluster is highly customisable, my personal favourites are full map view or travel assist view. IMO, better than 1 series or a class models i test drove and were more expensive. The screen layouts are logical and screens themselves appear to be a good quality. Touching the correct item on screen while driving can be a challenge.

No teething issues so far, Alexa is annoying me and not downloading from the incar shop, If it doesn't sort itself out within a week or 2 I'll contact the dealer. The we connect app is intermittent, the ability to trigger indicators or horn is a useful deterrent too.

This happened to be in stock, so cannot comment on the factory process/ordering from build.

Happy to answer any questions people may have, there don't appear to be many on the road yet!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200703/d3459e6484124679c0fe976dc34237e8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200703/3b1465c5b6196c2a96e24cae073855ae.jpg

Hey,

Whats under the shop function in the infotainment?

I've not seen a single one in Newcastle yet (only the demo they have at the dealer!).

Hey - the shop function supposedly allows you to buy/download functionality so you can upgrade parts. On my shop I only have We Connect plus and Alexa available. Apparently those without adaptive cruise control can download from the shop if didnt come on their chosen package - I think!

VW claim more functionality will be available in the 'shop' over time

Looks good. There don’t seem to be too many out there, so thanks for sharing.

Wonder what features they could potentially add.

On our “Life” we have the option to download headlight assist, Alexa and (I think) the enhanced interior lighting option. Alexa is free but you need to hotspot the car to your phone or buy a VW Data plan to make it work. Headlight assist is free for 30 days and £169 for indefinite period after that. Poor value when I bought the dongle to add the option from Kufatec for my A6 for less than £50 and anticipate the same price for. Golf when it is released .

You can also buy the enhanced ambient lighting pack, again free for a month or £59 for unlimited time.

Dynamic indicators?
Heated seats? (If they’ve fitted the heating elements?)

Good point on the aftermarket dongle, will keep an eye out for when those start to become available. I guess they could release a lot of software options to purchase, assuming additional hardware isn't required. Hopefully they begin to make more available soon
