Is there some legislation out which affects adjustable headrests? I know all cars have headrests that adjust up and down, but my old (1996) A4 had headrests that adjusted forward and back, whilst my '07 A6 doesn't. I was in Lincoln Audi the other day and asked one of the salesmen in passing, and he said he didn't know, but yes - all A6's only come with vertical adjustment. I miss having support for the back of my head on long journeys and I can only assume this is because of some safety legislation.

Can anyone shed some light?

It's probably because it's cheaper. Cost cutting.

Yes, they don't go forward and back anymore. As far as i know, some headrests were causing concussion in accidents when the head goes back towards the seat. The recommended height for them to be set to is for the headrest to start 3/4 of the way up to the top of your head, if that makes sense. That does look almost silly though. I am led to believe it is some European rule. Gone a bit too far though if you ask me...
