Hello. This is usually a faulty brake servo, has there been water build up in the battery tray area? Can you be a little more specific about the engine loss of power, is it just that the brakes are holding the car back or is it apparent in other ways?

thanks for helping out . yeah the engine loses power when you try to give it the boot, like the turbo isnt kicking in!:zx11:

The two could be connected; the turbo control on a TDI is performed by vacuum which is on the same circuit as the servo vacuum. What year is it and what engine code? You could do with getting a fault code scan done. Is the brake sticking more on the nearside front?

Crasher could be right. The brake servo is powered by a vacuum driven by the engine. If there is a leak or a bloked or broken/disconnected pipe this will stop the brakes from working. Normally you have a progressive braking sensation when pusing the pedal, but if the vacuum is gone or the engine is off, all you get is a rock solid pedal and a basic on or off feeling with the brakes.

Is the brake servo duff? if so, and the turbo is running on the same vacuum, this could be the problem

Thinking about this a bit more (and reading your original post a little slower) I think you have a vacuum leak or problem with the vacuum pump. Follow the hose from the servo to the pump and check for splits but do this with the engine running so you can hear leaks. Especially prone to problems is the grommet in the fire wall that joins the two hoses together.

Sounds more and more like the Vacuum failing somewhere...... Can you get it checked with VAG COM?

No leaks, no vacuum, new vacuum pump but it is rare for them to fail.
