The glow plug warning light is telling you that you have a fault code stored. You need to get the ECU scanned to see what the code is.

Crasher thanks for info, confirms my thinking, have to find someone around here with a reader not easy, been told of in car ECU reset procedure as follows : Turn the ignition on without starting the engine, holding the throttle to
the floor for 10sec, let up on the throttle, turn the ignition off, start up as normal, what say you ? tried three times myself didn't work on this car.

Never heard of that one and besides, if it did work, what use is it? It wouldn't tell you the fault code and so you couldn’t fix it. Almost any half decent garage has a fault code reader these days.

got it from a yank link, thay call it the magic ECU reset procedure to clear fault codes (only in america !!) this is what i'm needing to clear, the flashing glowplug light, i've a good idear where it came from when changed glowplugs, took out injectors & turned engine over on starter (silly me !!). found garage with code reader, going in morning to have cleared.

ps what's the name of the cat ? looks a dead ringer of mine, mini "the moucher".

That cat (one of my four) is Lupo and yes he is named after the car!

Hi Crasher this morning the garage used a snap-on scanner with result, open number #3 injector and that this meter could not clear that fault code ! so have passed me on to another garage who have the equipment to do this, going friday, on returning noted a real drop in power, as if the turbo was not doing it's job, would this be limp mode ? or is turbo shot ?
with multimeter set at 200ohm scale got reading of 104.6 ohms on injecter#3 coil would this be ok ? now at a loss to understand what is going on
"Help please"

mini was named after the car as well !

The fault code they go should have been

“00542 Needle lift sender -G80 Inlet open, Open circuit/short to positive or Short to earth" which means "G80 defective” or “Wiring open or short circuit” or possibly “Implausible signal” which means “G80 defective, Injection system wiring to 3rd cylinder not OK, Fuel shortage or air in the fuel system”.This code cause “Glow period warning lamp flashes, Engine runs rough, Reduced output, Increased emission figures”

The impedance should be between 80 and 120 but that isn't a perfect test. The wiring between the ECU and injector needs to be checked and if that is OK, then replace the injector which is part number 028 130 201 JX at £203.09 from VW but they are available from Bosch (0432 193 829) and Beru (DHT 200 0135 200 200 or DH 200 0135 100 200 which is a new part).

Thanks again crasher for the 1st class info and yes it did read "needle left sender open circuit No 3 injecter", which i'm now hoping came from when i turned over the engine with no injectors or glowplugs in,to clear dust around the holes ( silly me !) have to stay with my classic cars and leave this modern stuff to you young wizz-kids ! hopefully it will be sorted tomorrow.

That code would come from even just turning the ignition on with the injector unplugged.
