Every 60K miles or 4 years, whichever comes first.

Cost varies depending on garage, but expect to pay around £300 inc parts and labour, and i'd reccommend getting the water pump changed as well (£30 ish), because the plastic impellar melts away from the spindle. New impellars are metal.

If the water pump fails, you'll have the same labour costs again, as the belt needs to come off!

I was just about to post a new thread about this myself. My Golf 1.9 SDI has only done 11k but is 4 years old. The handbook says 40000 miles but there is no mention of 4 years or whichever comes first. Does the time limitation apply to a vehicle with such low mileage? Apologies if you think I've hijacked this thread. I'd definitely get it changed with 80 odd thousand on though.

its every 60k.. ENSURe the water pump is done.. otherwise this will fail around 100k then you will have to pay again.. then you mayas well have the cam belt done again while its in bits..
