MK3 AAZ Diesel - Bad MPG..

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum, but not new to VW having owned Mk1 Gti & Mk3 GTi 16v..

Currently running a Mk3 CL Diesel with the AAZ lump.

My post is regarding the MPG i'm currently getting; is unlike a diesel to give such low mpg..
Currently getting from a 45 litre tank (£45) - 420 miles...
I expected this to be greater, but cannot find any specification on this engine and claimed MPG.
I have tried altering driving and keeping the rpm below 2500, but this does not seem to make any difference..

Can someone give me an idea of what MPG i should be expecting from the AAZ and also what may be causing this low MPG..
