Not start

Lad in work aux belt snapped. He drove home with no power steering etc fine. Battery dead. I helped him fit a new belt. Fired it up.
The car starts and cuts out straight away. It’s a 2.0 tdi 2010 done 150,000 miles.

Any ideas
