I'm interested in trying amazon music etc in the car - is the only way to do this to buy a subscription for the car's e-sim, or can I share my phone's internet connection?

When I try the latter it times out as the phone is connected to the car via wifi, which is obviously an issue as the car doesn't have an active contract.

You can't use the Internet on your phone, at least if it is an iPhone. It may be possible if your phone supports rSAP (some but not all Android phones) as it could be done on the C7 but I can't be certain. Alternative to paying for a subscrioption on the eSIM would be to buy a data only SIM and put it in the slot in the armrest.
