Help,

My A4 tdi 97 110, had developed a problem.
It's down on power and a whooshing noise can be heard faintly when under load above 2k. It's also smoking heavilly under load.
I left it with my VW/Audi specialist who was convinced it would be an intercooler pipe, but after a couple of hours he can't find what is causing the problem. He can't recommend anything else either.

I have read about MAFs and EGR valve but unless they make whooshing noises I'm lost, if difficult to hear the noise when stationary which doesn't help diagnosing the problem. The car is due a service but that can't be what's causing it.

Please help!

I agree with him that it sounds like a boost leak but possibly also jammed turbo vanes or a sticking EGR valve. Has he got any fault codes coming up?

I don't know if he has VAGCOM he didn't mention any fault codes.
Is there a valve on the turbo that sometimes needs lubing, I have read a thread that suggested this. What's the best way to clean the EGR valve?
Thanks

The vanes on the turbo are controlled by what is known as the N75 valve but neither can be lubricated just cleaned or replaced respectively. It really should have a code read done.

could be in luck, just spend 30 mins in the garage and took a few intercooler pipes off, found a big split in the small one near teh egr valve, wrapped it solid with electircal tape and a quick spin round the block, seems better so will replace tomorrow, fingers crossed that will be it!
Thanks

you've deffo got a boost leak mate, split in hose will do it!
