I’ve just picked up my Audi A6 from Cardiff Audi. I’mtrying to work out how I connect my iPod Classic to the car as an Externalmusic source? I used to connect it via AMI cable as shown in the attachedphotograph. However in my centre console I no longer have the connectioninterface for such a cable, now I have 2 x USB sockets, 1 x SIM & 1 SDCardreader. How am I to connect my iPod please? I’ve tried just the USB cableconnection but the only thing the iPod will do is charge. Does every externalmedia source need to be and Android or Apple phone to connect to the MMIsystem?
I phoned Customer Services and was informed that all Ihad to was plug in the USB cable to my iPod and USB interface in the consoleunit and it would connect to the system, however no joy.
Can someone please help me out with this littleconundrum?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Don’t think the latest version of mmi supports older apple products. I used to use an iPod touch 2 running iOS4.6 via the ami port and that does not work in my c8 using the usb socket

Thanks for replying John. Do you think that means that I need to purchase an iPhone or another android phone to connect?
Maybe even a large capacity memory stick?

You can use either a high capacity hard drive or usb stick via the USB port or alternatively use the SD Card slot. Alternatively a more recent iPod Touch would do the job, the issue I faced was the one I had (2nd Gen) used such an old version of the OS. In the same way when I got my C7 A6 i could no longer use tyhe iPod Mini that had served me well in the past.

I just bought a 256 GB SD card for under 30 pounds so was just going to copy my library across to that.

Please let me know how you get on as I'm unsure whether to get a 256gb memory stick or 256gb card?
Cheers.

Sure, the instructions state 256 GB work so should be ok currently using a 64GB one but just haven't had chance to copy stuff across yet. I went with SD as it hardly sticks out and leaves the USB free

Sorry, but what do you mean by a high capacity hard drive? how would I connect that to play media?

Yeah, my SD cards are only 4gb as on my older A4 there were some issues with SD cards and which would work and others that wouldn't. So I opted for the 160GB iPod classic.

I got a really small 64gb USB stick. It only sticks out of the usb port by a small amount so no chance of it getting broken. Fast to write too as well.

John, ive had the same issue as you. Ipod touch prehistoric isnt recognised by inter galactic A6 Avant C8. Im running an SD card at the minute but its so much easier to keep an ipod updated with the latest music, any idea which generation of ipod id need to get? Want to go cheap - its only going to sit in the car! Many thanks.

An iPod Touch 6th generation is able to run iOS 12 (only 7th generation can run the current iOS 13) so that should be OK. Looks as if the 5th Generation iPod will only run iOS9 which is probbaly too far back for Audi to ensured true compatibility with the latest MMI software
