View Full Version : Question Front Wheel Bearing Replacement - Torque Settings?

Hi everyone,
First time posting so if I'm in the wrong section I apologize.

Currently changing the wheel bearing assembly on a 2014 Audi A1 1.4 TFSI 122PS and I'm not entirely sure what the torque on the axle nut should be.
It's a 12 point'd Nut with the locking tangs. I've read about various different methods and values ranging from 50-200Nm ?!

The most common answer is to first tighten to 200 then slacken a turn, then re tighten to 50Nm + 60 degrees.
I'm concerned this is not correct as surely the locking tangs would be broken if it was slacked off a turn?
The other option is only tightening to 50Nm which sounds very low for such a critical bolt.
Can anybody shed any light on this?

50Nm+45 degrees, if you took that design to 200Nm you stand a good chance of ripping the thread off of the CV, make sure the new nut you are given is the dished type, part number 6Q0 407 396 B, some are flat which is wrong and this also rips the thread off. It is a 36mm socket.

Not on the threads but you are supposed to use locking compound on the splines of the CV to stop it shifting but I don't and don't get any issues. The reason I don't is it makes them an absolute sketch to get apart again.
