Hi everyone

I recently bought an A4 Cabriolet. The one we test-drove had basic seats in it and the one I bought has the all singing, all dancing up down forwards backwards controls.

Trouble is my wife can't sit in either front seat for longer than a couple of minutes without getting a crippling backache which actually leads to a migraine!

She thinks it's probably the lumbar support which is, wherever it is placed, wrong for her and does not retract enough.

I have two choices. Get rid of the car and take the financial hit. Try and spend money now to do something about the seats. The latter should be cheaper and anyway - we love the car.

So I am tryng to hunt down a specialist who could modify the seats. Someone who understands anatomy, car seats and my wife!

And we are getting desperate so if anyone out there can make any suggestions that work life could get good again!

Well I damaged my own back many years ago (now healed) and tried one of these and consigned it to the dustbin to be honest. Thanks for the reply but we are needing something far more radical to be honest.

How about keep the car and ditch the wife!!!!!! OR if the convetional seat is more comfortable rather than the all singing version, could you not replace the whole seat!!

There are, shall we say, certain benefits in keeping her!
I am going to keep the backward step of the 'standard' seats as a last resort I think. I know it's an option but as with the wife, there are certain benefits of the current seats - like dual memory settings.

I realise it's a tall order but somewhere out there is a specialist who knows exactly what to do - it's just finding him!

Having had back probs myself and experienced the back pain from driving and knowing manufacturers spend millions on Ergonomics for seat design. I would be willing to bet that a visit to an Osteopath will cure your wifes problems and if her back is ok during her visit get the Osteopath to asses her driving position in the car. You might find it's not the seat that's causing the problems but the actual position of the wheel / pedals in relation to the driver's seat.

I have got the multi function / position sport seats in mine with the extendable knee support and can easily find a comfortable position. Rather than replace the seats with the basic ones, which will cost a bomb and look....ehh..mmm...:yikes:

Try one of these :-----> http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product.do?id=30085&procid=39&catid=1227

Other than that....I am affraid the wife must go:D

Hope this helps

Yes - they would 'look' bad but the cost would be nothing compared to the instant depreciation of a new car! The problem is, quite seriously, the seat. Thanks for the link, at least that is something to talk over and take a look at. (Having said that I think one of these would look worse than te standard Audi seats!)
