Something popped in the cabin

Audi A4 All road 2013 3.0tdi.

I went out tonight drove about 10 miles and there was a loud pop/bang in the cabin area (Scared me shitless) and a electrical burning type smell, my daughter said it smelt like petrol, it did a little.
There are no fault indicators on the dash and everything seems to be working ok.

One week ago today I had the auxiliary heater replaced for the recall, could it be this that's blown??? bit of a coincidence?

Did you have the aux heater switched off prior to the recall and did you switch it on after?

I have never used it, I switched it off when I got the recall letter it was on auto. When I got it back it was set to auto.
