Help - I'm looking for roof bars to fit a 3 door Mk3 Golf - with a sunroof.

I've been told that some won't fit the models wqith sunroof. Does anyone know if VW did roof bars that will fit and where I could get some from?

halfords have all in stock but not the cheapest place in the world

Yes, seen theirs, but been advised the Golf with a sunroof can't take them????

i had a look in halfords and nothing was mentioned about a sunroof
i am shure if you ask they will put you right if noy try flea bay ??

Hi, Halfords will do a combination (that I have used frequently with a roofbox on my 1992 Mk III). It involves Halfords "feet", Thule bars and a particular fixing kit.

A helpful Halfords guy at a Sheffield store called a contact from Thule to establish the combination, it was a special order that came a week later. Approx £90... can't quite remember.

So, you might want to try Halfords via Thule.

I'm confused, why does the sunroof affect the roof rack?

The sunroof affects the roof's rigidity and the ability to retain the front fixings of a roof bar system designed for cars without sunroofs.

I don't know if this is urban myth, but apparently there have been several incidents where laden roof bars have come off cars. Not good.

I would of thought there is a proper place for the roof rack on both sunroof and non-sunroof models. any other position would be incorrect :dunno:

Hi Everyone,

My son needs to get a pair of roof bars for a MK 3. Unfortunately he doesn't earn a lot and cannot afford Halfords prices. Is there anyone out there witha pair for about £30. Please.

i got a set of thule roof bars to fit mk3 golf. email me at andrew.mcnally1@gmail.com if you're interested. They are in almost new condition, cost £100ish new, i'll take £40+ whatever for P&p.
