Hello from Sweden!

This is my first post here in this great forum!
Im currently rebuilding a CN engine (5cyl 2.0D) and have went into a problem.
In the repair manuals, all instructions about timing the cam shaft are based on engines which have the woodruff kiel for localizing the cam belt wheel to the cam shaft.
However, mine, and most engines after 1985 I think (when the hudraulic valve tappets where introduced), are missing this woodruff, as there is not any cut out any more for it in the wheel, only in the cam shaft.
(The same goes for the rear belt wheel for the injection pump)
This makes it a bit tricky to time the engine at rebuild, or even later cam belt changes, so Im searching a "how to" on how it is meant to be made.
With non hydraulic tappets, I can at least in theory imagine that there is some values for valve opening on cyl1 at some number of degrees around TDC or similar, but in the case of a newly rebuilt engine, not even this is a possiblity to use as the valve tappets (hydraulic lash adjusters) are with various amount of oil filled and will open the valve a bit less than after first start up.

Man, how they thought when the removed the woodruff???
Is the method simply to position the old cut out in the camshaft in line with the top plane of the cylinder head, and lock it there in some way during mounting of the belt wheel, and put a mark on the backside of the wheel in line with the top plane of the cylinder head..., in order to be able to mount/change the cam belt later...?

Thanks for any input!
/Magnus
