Škoda is used to its cars winning awards, but now even the firm’s TV adverts are picking up gongs.
The Czech firm’s commercial for the New Fabia – in which a team of artisans bake a car entirely out of cake – scooped the ‘Commercial of the Year’ prize at the British Television Advertising Craft Awards (BTACA). The now famous clip also won the prizes for ‘Best Model Making’ and ‘Best use of Recorded Music’.
In order to make the car, Škoda used, among other things, 10kg of white chocolate chunks, 20kg of raisins and 100kg of wheat flour. Its first TV airing took place on the 17th of May, but it can still be seen on various channels. There’s also a ‘Baking of’ documentary film that you can watch online at www.newfabia.co.uk (http://www.newfabia.co.uk/).
Commenting on the winning commercial, Peter Bigg of the BTACA, said: “Everyone seems to have their favourite bit within it. For some it's the jelly taillight, for others it's the scene where the syrup is poured into the engine. The crafting of the film is exquisite and you can't fail to be amused by it. I rather suspect that it will gather many more awards.”
Head of Škoda UK, Chris Craft, commented: “We’re obviously delighted with this recognition. As a company we’re rapidly developing a reputation as the maker of entertaining and genuinely different car adverts.”
The New Fabia is available with the choice of seven engines and in three different trims. Prices start at Ł7,990 with Škoda Finance currently offering typical APR rates of 5.3%. Škoda is used to its cars winning awards, but now even the firm’s TV adverts are picking up gongs.
