Hi all.

Does anyone have information on changes to a 1.4 [150] GT Estate for the upcoming MY19?

I have one on order but didn't realise there was a change of spec coming!

Cheers,
Dave.

I think this is as per the current price list (dated end of April) which is basically the changes for 2018 with some models removed from sale, such as he 2.0TDI 190 manual models. The GT gets the LED headlights over the previous years spec.

Thanks Frank!

I assumed that since the April info was already available the MY19 spec would be different. The supplying dealer couldn't give any information on upcoming changes but indicated there could be some.

With the new emmisions regulations coming in shortly I thought the 1.4 TSI might even be changed to the 1.5TSI. I see the configurator has changed recently to remove some engine options but the 1.4 [150] is still there. So the engine change might be saved for the facelift next year.

I found a German forum with some chat about potential MY19 changes but it just seems to be people guessing...

Ups, bist Du ein Mensch? / Are you a human? (https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/aenderungen-mj2019-t6274083.html)

I did notice a while back lots of models were missing from the configurator, much less than the price list and have just had another look and it’s the same - no 2.0TDI 190 models showing apart from the Alltrack, no 1.6TDI and no 1.8TSI so it’s 1.4TSI with 125 and 150bhp and 2.0TDI either 150 or biturbo 240 only

Hello

Does anyone have any insight on these changes?

As I'm keen on the 1.4 estate, but dealers have been informed me to expect Nov or later for factory orders. But no clue on what the new model year brings!

Thanks!

I believe the changes made earlier this year constitute the 2019MY change and there have been no further announcements (indeed the current changed spec was announced at the same time you could order so I can’t imagine there is a huge build up to any further specification changes)

Production options for a number of VAG cars are having an impact on waiting times as the seismic shift from diesel to petrol takes place - petrol engines are mainly built in the Czech Republic where as Diesel engines are built in Germany; lines in Germany are being converted to build petrol engines (which has meant a reduction in diesel availability) and petrol engine capacity still hasn’t caught up hence a 4 month order for a new Passat 1.4TSi

Since my initial post I have had it confirmed that there are no changes from the previous MY.

I've heard of a few people having orders cancelled or delayed due to the new emmisions regulations but my 1.4 GT Estate ordered in May just completed build today!

I (rather hopefully) asked for delivery in September so it's on a '68 plate which I've been told is fine. I expected to be told no because (as I understand it) cars which have not been tested under the new regulations cannot be registered after August?! Not complaining but I half expect to have it delivered on an 18 plate on the last day of August when they realise...

I was wondering if they would phase in the 1.5, as that is happening for Skoda. Hopefully there will be some news.

I'd guess the 1.5 will come to the Passat when it is facelifted next year.

Alternatively, I heard that the Audi A4 can no longer be ordered with the 1.4 and has been replaced by a detuned [150PS] 2.0, so VW could go the same route with the Passat. Seems unlikely when you can get the 1.5 in the Aerton though...

I have a 1.4TSI due for October.

I’m sure it’s just an error, but had this email the other day:

If you have any updates, please post! I just placed my order last week with a Kate Nov delivery. Dealer claims no changes at this time!

The complexity and change for the 2019MY appears to be nothing equipment related but compliance with the new WLTP economy test - I think that cars sold from September need to have been through the test and certain models, like the 190SCR and 1.5TFSi, are struggling to get decent results - the 1.4 is being phase out at this time. The main issue is there are limited labs authorised to approve so there is a backlog of cars requiring tests (unlike other emissions standards it is retrospective) - a result of this is that manufacturers are focusing on certain models until the remainder can be tested in the future. More here on the test;

Well I predicted it... I was informed yesterday that I'll have to take my new 1.4 [150] Passat on an '18 plate. Its a lease car and I got an excellent deal so I'm not too bothered but obviously 5 minutes on Google gave me a better education than the people I asked in both the VW dealer and VW customer services.

Now taking delivery a week on Monday. Since our family recently expanded it'll be great to be in a bigger car again!

Hi,

I have a car on order and asked the same question to my dealership, they have finally shared some details;
* Car-Net Security and Service will now come standard on GT and the R-Line models
* Seat presence detection for all seats with seat belt reminders, required for NCAP
* A shortcut button on the steering wheel for driver assistance systems
* New design of luggage cover handle for the estate.

I think there are engine changes as well, such as the 1.4 petrol engine to 1.5, but nothing that affects me so I have no details on them.

Can’t wait to see what the redesigned grab handle for the load cover looks like - scraping the bottom of the barrel?!

Wonder if there will be many 18-plate 2.0BiTDi 4Motion models in 3 years time as that’s what I’ll be looking for to tow a heavier caravan

Good news!

I think the tracker during the whole build process couldn't cope with the fiasco that is WLTP. Mine was stating Build Week Confirmed (Stage 3) for over a month even though I knew it had completed build, as was told on the VW Live Chat. My car was sitting in their 'banking' area where they have been keeping all models until they got round to testing WLTP and yesterday it suddenly moved to Stage 5. Yesterday I received a text telling me it was at Stage 5a, and I confirmed that it is heading to the UK and not another waiting area, and this morning another text telling me at Stage 5b, Shipping.

Even though it is heading to the UK, I have been told that although WLTP has been tested, they have not yet got the Certificates of Conformity from the DVLA so will not be able to release/register the vehicle to sell to me. The planned release of the Certificate is towards the end of October. This is for a 2.0 TDI, so other models may be different.

Yea mine has just changed today from in build to in transit.

Dealership seems to think end of October it will be ready. Crossing fingers!

You guys are lucky! A check with live chat states I'm still looking at a Dec build week!

gjmartin

Having later build date, although annoying does mean that the car should hopefully sail through production and shipping, and you won't have any of the hold-ups that we are experiencing. Another plus point is that when it finally arrives at the Dealer they will be able to register it and you'll be able to insure it!! There are quite a few reports of people getting new VAG cars that have undergone an engine change, and they have not been able to get any insurance quotes as the companies do not recognise the model with the new engines, I know people getting Seat Ateca's that are in this position.

gjmartin

New pricelist has been released on the Volkswagen website, dated 11-10-2018 for the Passat Estate. WLTP approval for the 2.0 litre engines is now confirmed, still TBA for the petrol engines.

rcaero, regarding the facelift, rumour is around July timeframe, although I would have thought they would be in a hurry to release, as the hybrid versions are only coming back with the facelift, and that's a long time without a hybrid offering!

Maybe it's just me but I prefer the current shape. That front end looks very Cadillac-ey!

JimDut

I think this is purely for the Chinese market. Maybe the front and rear end will be the same/similar but that’s def a long wheel base.

The 2019 facelift will be just that, a facelift / the Chinese model is an entirely different shape and proportions.

Well just received notification that my car is now in the UK :)

Arrived at Sheerness yesterday morning, but obviously takes awhile for them to unload and update the system, plus events only seem to come in on the App and text message round 8:30 in the mornings. Just the long wait now for it to make it's way to the dealer and for them to do their bit. Unfortunately I'm unavailable next week to pick up so even if it's ready I'll only be able to get it at the end of October!
JimDut, hope you are also closer to getting yours, both of ours seem to enter Transit round the same time...

Hi Everyone, new here.

I have a new Passat Business SE on order with work, been following the WLTP thing as it’s causes us some big issues on the company car list but in the end put an order in for the Business SE 2.0 DSG with Voice control, Upgraded steering wheel for the DSG paddles and went for the Pine Incerts as I was not ovaly happy with the silver incerts around the lower dash and much preferred the piano black like on the GT.

I really wanted to go for the GT with the part leather but could only get that with the Manual so ended up dropping to the BSE to get the DSG, that’s about the only thing that rubs me is the seats as I did think the black cloth felt a little cheap on the SE, especially on the arm rest, I have a 2015 Mondeo and while it’s cloth the arm rest is leather or fake leather and the seat cloth IMO is a better quality and look. For a £30K car I was expecting a little more than than the Kensington cloth gives, was hoping the 2019 spec may change it but it appears not, it’s a mild annoyance that I can live with though.

Anyway order went in first or second week of September and am still waiting, i was happy to see the new price list a few weeks back finally with the WLTP values listed as I was not actually sure what the CO would be when I ordered.

I can’t track it as it’s though a number of parties with work but can’t wait for it to come now, was a little disconcerting today though to find everything on the VW site as “from stock only” so was concerned they had halted orderes ?

JimDut
06-11-2018, 05:35 PM
Nope.

I’ve ended up complaining to VW.

Mine has been sat at the dealership for two weeks now. It’s blocked from being registered still because of this new emissions testing.

No one will tell me what’s causing the delay or when it’s likely to be ready.

Considering I order the car in May, my patience is wearing thin.

So there might be a cancelled order at Crewe VW soon for someone!

Jim

Yes, I have mine, but then it was the bog-standard 2.0 TDI. I was informed by the Online Chat that it they would only be able to register it from w/c 16th Nov, but my dealer managed to register it the week it arrived.

With WLTP, its not just about the testing, they need each individual Transport authority to approve the results, so even though it has been signed off by the KBA (German Transport Authority), it now needs to be signed off by the DVLA so that it can be registered in this country. And then it's about the DVLA notifying the dealer that the car can be registered. That's my understanding of the process, and with dealing with multiple agencies it's no surprise that there are delays or miscommunications.

When you do get to pick it up, I will be interested to know if you get given a USB cable? I know it a small thing, but on the specification and pricelist it states "Premium USB cable included", but my dealer refused to believe it or acknowledge it and I couldn't be bothered to fight it, considering I already had to fight over the finance as they had changed some of the figures without telling me!

Hi mate. Nope!

It’s been a big struggle getting VW to tell me what’s going on!!

Apparently the dealership reckon it can be registered w/c 26th Nov so will update when I hear more and provide a review as soon as possible.
