Hi all, Yesterday we collected a nice little 2009 1.4s mk6 Golf for the wife to learn to drive in and then use once she passes her test. It doesn't have a lot of kit on it and there's a couple of things i'd like to add to it, mainly parking sensors and i'd prefer if the rear windows are electric (5 year old is autistic and i'd rather windows were electric and switched off rather than remove the handle). I'd rather fit VW parts than aftermarket as i'd prefer the installation to look factory and neater, are these jobs doable or would it require major rewiring of the car?

Thanks in advance

Parking sensors aren't too difficult, you'll need an OPS kit and will need to drill out holes in the right places on the bumpers, install the sensors and run the looms through to the cockpit.

I have the same car and it came with an RCD210 (which I've swapped for an RNS510 and will be swapping again for an R340G that has just arrived), which would need to be replaced as it doesn't support OPS input or display, you'll also need to use VCDS to code it all.

I'd get an RNS315 with built-in nav and bluetooth, if you don't want to spend mega bucks.
I'd also probably just take it to someone to do for you, most ICE specialists should be able to do it, but with the cost of the HU and sensors you're looking at about £800.

Windows, not worth it IMO, you'd need door control modules, motors, new door cards, switches, new looms.
Even if you were happy forking out for everything you need to completely disassemble the door, popping out all of the rivets to get the above installed and it will be an utter ballache.

I've debated installing speakers in the rear doors (bass drivers are there but no tweeters) as the rear sound is not connected on the S models, but the idea of fitting the tweeters, having to make up new looms, running them through the body and then installing in the quadlock for a little bit more noise is a big turn off.

With the kind of costs that you're talking about you'd probably be better off selling it and spending the extra on something like a focus that has all of this stuff factory fitted.
