Hi Guys

Typically what sort of miles can you get out of the pads before the rear pads need replacing ? My front pads have a wear sensor but NO wear sear on the rear pads. Not sure when to change them.

Is it a relatively easy job to do ?

Thanks.

have you got an electronic handbrake ? yes

thanks for your reply. Typically what sort of miles can you get out of the rear pads before they need changing ? is there a 'how to guide' in replacing the rear pads. thanks.

I get 45,000 out of my A6 but that's all dependent on driving style, I tow a 1,800 kg braked horsebox but I am not heavy on brakes

Front & rear usually last the same time

You need an Autel VAG505 handheld computer or VCDS to rewind the electronic brakes, to get the caliper off the discs, then a VW three pronged tool to wind in brake caliper. Stick it all back together & tell the computer to wind brakes back on

Laser 5538 Piston Wind Back Adaptor 3 Pin: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-5538-Piston-Wind-Adaptor/dp/B00BP7WFOG) you need this to go on the wind back tool . You may need to file off paint on wind back tool to put adaptor on

They are ATE electric calipers and you push the pistons back conventionally, not with a wind back tool.

Many thanks. Oh dear, i've just bought a rewind back tool kit. Does anyone know where i can get hold of a cheap push back brake piston tool that would be suitable for my car ? Thanks.

Yes, looks spot on. I have an ATE version I have had for years.
