Hi Guys

Fantastic forum, I’m having information overload here lol...

I was hoping I could gain some advice on an issue I am having with my 2013 A6 3.0 BiTdi.

I bought the 3.0 BiTdi around 18 months ago as an upgrade from an A6 2006 3.0 Quattro and I was amazed with the power 313 bhp. Anyway I have 122k up on the clock now as I do big miles with my work around 1k per week. I was traveling home last week on a 140 mile journey traveling along around 60 mph when I noticed the flashing glow plug then limp home mode after another 20 or so mile I notice the engine management light come on also. When I got home I plug in the Ross tech gear to try and clear the fault and I see there are 2 faults.

Fault 1 actuator module for turbocharger 1 pooaf 00032 stuck
Electronic damper Turbo 1 sticking - I solved this by replacing the electronic damper with a repair kit costing £252 ( Apparently I was lucky here as there are 2 models 1 that needs to replaced with the twin turbos removed and reprogrammed and the Hella version which mine was that can be replaced in the car with no reprogramming) Once we replaced this the fault cleared.

Fault 2 Diesel particle Filter P2463 00 (175) Excesive suit accumulation Mil On confirmed Fault Priority 2 UNSOLVED
I do a lot of miles as I said therefore regeneration should not be an issue unless with 122k on the clock the DPF has reached the end of its life. I have tried to force a regen with the rosstech gear but the message I get is that it cant be done for safety reasons. I have taken it for a couple of runs and on each of the 2 occasions after 20 mins at between 2500 -3000 (tel:2500%20-3000) revs switched engine off then back on the car ran perfect for a couple of mins then dropped back into limp home mode.

I have read quite a bit on this and I see a lot of people remove the DPF and remap however I realise this is not good for the environment / insurance reasons but does this cause an issue with the UK mot test yet? Also I would rather keep the car standar and fix the problem if possible. So can the DPF be cleaned out or does this just push the problem down the road?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I want to get back on the road asap...

I read this on the AA website, can they test now for DPF in Mot test or is it a visual check?

Removal's not a legal optionIt’s sometimes suggested that you can get a DPF cut out of the exhaust and the engine management software reprogrammed rather than pay to get it repaired.

DPFs are fitted to meet European emissions regulations and it would be an offence (under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/contents/made)) to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the emissions standards it was designed to meet.
Removing a DPF could also invalidate any insurance cover because it makes the vehicle illegal for road use.
Since February 2014 a missing DPF, where one was fitted when the vehicle was built, will result in an MOT failure (https://www.theaa.com/driving-advice/service-repair/mot).

Thanks for the link, interesting video on DPF alright worth watching...

Has anyone cleaned out DPF with over 100k on it? I have read they are only good for around 100k

Thanks

As I had said the vcds would not clear the dpf faults and the car would not force regen and was stuck in limp home mode. But when the terra clean for specialist came out he tested all the sensor from a cold start then he said the dpf has very low levels of soot so he was able to reset the dpf codes with his equipment. We then went a test drive with his equipment plugged in and the car was back to its very powerful self. All has been good now for the last 4 days. So looks like the issue is resolved.

Hi G Mac

Sorry to resurect an old thread.

I have the same issue with turbo actuator J724 as you did and just wanted to ask about removal and fit if you can remember.

Did you have to use VAS 6395 special tool and 6395/7 bracket to obtain voltage of old actuator when cycled and adjust new actuator position in the metal cage it bolts to or was it a straight swap with no special tools?

Im only asking as reading the workshop manual for the 313bhp bitdi engine says you have to use the special tools so im a bit confused and want to make sure before i dive in
