Hello

My friend's mom has problem with his Touareg. 2003year 2,5TDI 128kw manual boxWe changed alternator diode with brushes and the belt or something and still not charging.
Battery light stays on and no charge at all.
Did disconnect alternator wire from the battery and other one just to measure if it charges and it doesn't.
Did check voltages on that plug (2 wires) and it gives only 6-7Volts on both

So where should I start to look the fault?

I guess the reason you changed the brushes and the clutch (as the R5 has that, not a belt) was, that the alternator didn't seem to work in the first place. So, if you changed those, and it's still not working, then the problem must lie somewhere else with it. However, because other parts on the alternator are not really replaceable, you'll most likely have to replace the alternator itself. A new, original one can be had for like £300-350, but you can get an aftermarket one or a used original one in good condition for like £150.

Btw did you also replace the freewheel, or just the rubber clutch? If you didn't, you should probably do that, every 100.000 miles. That will be like £50-80, depending on where and what brand you can get. Original manufacturer is Gates.

And if you're already at it, also do the same with the A/C compressor (ie. replace clutch and freewheel), because they're exactly the same parts, and you don't want your A/C to seize up either. (Of course, to do that, you'll have to evacuate the system first, otherwise you might get serious burns - but I guess you know that.)

Rubber clutch was broken so we had to change it,after testing it charged normally until it just stopped and gave battery error again. Later took alternator off and changed brushes and it first gives no error, when start. And then it gives no charging. What if the little 2wire plug should give 12V to alternator to start working but it gives too low voltages and thats why it doesn't start to charge?
