Morning all. New to the forum and sorry if this have to answered but have searched and can't find it.

I recently purchased a 2.6 V6 ABC egined Audi 80.

The temp gauge on the instrument panel works when it wants to (20% of the time) I have followed the instructions on the 12v website and tested the resistance on both the switch and the plug. Switch appears to give the correct values but wiring harness returns 7.5ohms from the negative terminal (12v website states no more than 1ohm) so what is the next course of action?

Thank you in advance guys.

Change the sender first. Your car may have the original sensor 046 919 369 (3 pin) which has been superseded to 034 919 369 C (4 pin) which retail at £157.36 from Audi/TPS (they have good stock at Dorden), and the extra pin in the 034 is not required. The sensor is in the head to head water transfer pipe on the back of the heads on the cars right hand side, bank 1, and I have known them snap off in the pipe and the pipe itself to fail due to rust when removing or re-installing the sensor… then when you remove the pipe the bolts snap off in the head, all good fun…. The one on the cars left is for the engine management, these are a very common failure, back when this car was a regular workshop task we always stocked the white ECU sensor 026 906 161 because we used so many. Getting one aftermarket is going to be tough, the only people that seem to have any are in the USA, pop the number into Google and see what comes up. If a new sender fails to help it will usually be the gauge, it was always sort of 50/50 but the sender was not much more than a new gauge but FAR easier to install but the gauge for both VDO and Motometer panels is now obsolete mainstream Audi but they can be obtained from the Classic department in Germany.

Hi Crasher and thanks for the reply. The sensor I was told it was in indeed to the back right of the engine but is only a 2 pin? Can't work out how to attach a photo! 😂

Hi mate. Defo a 2 pin fitted and checked with dealer today that it'd a 2 pin. What is the course of action to take with regards to resistance being over the required 1ohm?
