dead temp gauge

Hello i have recrntly bought a Audi cabriolet 1.8 20v 1998 R engine code ADR the temp gauge does not move at all i have changed blue sensor 4 pin back of head still dead 3 pin grey sensor beside it i bridged wires but still no action all fuses ok car runs ok doesnt overheat Help!!!

does it have a MFTS like in this SJM Autotechnic link:

If not, as you already found, the gauge should go up to max, when you bridge/earth out the wire. If it is not doing this, you are either working on the wrong sender wire, or there is another problem eg broken wire or circuit board in the intrument cluster.

hello Bridged out grey sensor this time the temp gauge went to full so i suspect grey sensor faulty part no 053919501A hopefully that will cure it thanks for your help .Darran.
