View Full Version : Question Is my car over-boosting?

I've got a 2005 Passat with the PD 130 AWX, owned for nearly 2 years and never had any problems with the engine or any fault codes.

I was looking into remapping it recently and the remapper suggested checking some data with VCDS to make sure the MAP and turbo are healthy.

We noticed that the duty cycle peaks at well over 80%, see logs here from a 3rd gear full throttle pull to redline:

https://a.rkw.io/vcds.html

(Fields are Time, engine RPM, intake pressure spec, intake pressure actual and D.cycle MAP)

however the car drives fine and always has done while I've owned it, no sign of it going into limp mode. I didn't get much history so I don't know if it's ever had a reconditioned turbo. Should I look into adjusting the VNT rod or is it possible this is actually just normal?

I've been tempted to go for a blacksmoke.co.uk remap but don't want to pop the turbo if it's overboosting.

Surely if it was overboosting the ecu would put the car in limp mode ?

I'd have assumed so but I really don't know. The numbers are definitely out of spec though, it's meant to max out at 80%.
