Flashing Engine Management Light

Hello everyone,

Just bought a 1997 T4 TDI 2.5 and after about 50 miles the Engine Management System light (glowplug light)) started flashing for about 10 seconds, started flashing again 20 miles later and for slightly longer, and after about 100 miles it stayed flashing for about 1 min. Today I drove the van for about 2 miles twice and no light appeared. Anyone know what's happening?

hi ,, i know this sounds mad , but check your brake light bulbs..
let us know if it fixes the problem...

Hi Willy,

Found a single filament bulb in tail/brake light and about an inch of water in the offside lens! Hopefully this will make a difference. I'll keep you posted.

yep....

9/10 times, its the brake lights at fault, a flashing glow plug/ems light is indicative of this.

if the fault light still persists however, get it fault read as a precaution :)

Nice one, a relief to hear that. Hopefully that's the end of it. Got a bit worried after just buying it and the EMS light started to flash 50 miles up the road.

Spot on guys. After a further 300 miles I have not seen the EMS light flash again. Brilliant. Thanks for the info.:beerchug:
