Hi
I am the proud owner 3.2 53 reg A3, at the beginning of the summer I started it up one morning and it beeped at me 3 times and the power steering was working, so I (stupidly) took it to the Audi dealer and asked them what was wrong, they took a look and said I need a new steering column (about £1200). I asked if they could give me a bit of time to get other quotes, they returned the car with the steering working, I asked them why is working now, the guy explained that they can clear the faults and so the computer thinks that everything is ok (for this privilege they charged me £100). He also said that that has not fixed the problem but it will give me a bit of time. I brought a 3rd party VAG-COM cable off eBay and got the software of the internet went on and tested my new cable and software, all ok and it was so I put the cable to on side until I needed it.
Got in to the car the other day and the engine warning light has come so I got out my cable and had a look at the warning. The warning that came up was P1640 Internal Contr.Module (EEPROM) Error 18048, so I cleared it and went on my way (with the intention of googling it when I got home) now this morning the steering problem returned. So again I got the cable out and tried to clear the error and when I try to go into any controller option apart from 01 – Engine I get “No response from controller” error. I did google the 18048 error and from what I have read I may have a bad ECU.
1. Can anyone give me a bit more info on the 18048 error and possible fixes?
2. Would this 18048 error affect me getting into other controllers in VAG-COM?
Thanks
Spike
