Shocking experience today, booked to see a Touareg at the above dealers today. Which is 60 mile round trip for us, phoned just before leaving and all was ok. 20 mins from the location I get a call (new iPhone software won’t allow call when driving unless I disable the do not disturb) saying someone else is looking at the car and is about to take it for a test drive, unless I pay a deposit to reserve it....... We arrive just as it’s on route back and whilst I’m listening to the voicemail.

I meet up with the salesman who doesn’t even apologise. He gives me the keys for a look round, it’s supposedly been through all the checks! But when questioned why the tyres are on the limit and unevenly worn they quickly revert to..... oh it’s not ready to go yet. I wasn’t happy and was reluctant to test drive it as I’m a first impressions guy, test drive was awful as it was pulling left all the time.

Question: anyone else had uneven wear issues? It was really bad on all corners.

It is a black 262 r line MT15xxx I really hope it is not the same one. But it could explain the amount of phone calls asking if I wanted it and for a deposit. As long as it is sorted before I get there...

asr, it was the white 15 plate I was looking at as the black was already sold. All I can say is I hope you have a better experience than me. I personally won’t ever be using Lookers or Sytner again.

I’m sure you’ll be ok, it looked ok when had a quick look as the wife was attracted to it lol a magnet. I would ask them for tread depths thou just to see what the response was. They said to me they will sell a car with legal limit tyres on ie: 3mm rather than change them.

So I asked then about the tread depth and they came back with 4-4.5 on the front and 3-3.5 on the rears. Contacted VW and asked them their stance under Das Welt and they said 3mm.
So I will probably need to replace them next year and order some winter tyres for this year.

Interesting, must be dealer specific. I went to hartwells Warrington to look at another one and they put new tyres on it all round and said the wouldn’t sell a £27k car with 3mm tread left on them.

Well I am now the owner of a black 262 R line. Happy with it so far. Few scratches that I got the dealer to sort out but couldn't get them to shift on the tyres at 3mm.

Just noticed Lookers are advertising the Touareg I looked at with 4 new tyres & front & rear pads. It’s only done 24k......... it did have some very strange wear patterns on all 4 corners thou.
