Hi Guys,

Have a 2011 A4 2.0TDi manual.

Car has circa 130k miles on it. Recently it has started to develop an issue. When cursing at say 70mph in 6th gear and flooring the accelerator, the revs will jump up instantly, they will bounce up and down whilst car is gaining speed and will then stabilise when foot is let off the pedal a little.

Only happens at higher speeds and higher gears, cannot be repeated in 1st,2nd or 3rd gear.

Almost like a slipping clutch, which I had two gauges investigate but found nothing. On top of this, over the last two days i noticed a oily patch on my driveway from what seems to be under the gearbox.

Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Many Thanks

your clutch is slipping, fit a new one.

Had two garages look into this, both said not clutch. No errors either. Could it be throttle body related?

speed stays the same, engine revs increase, its a manual gearbox. either the clutch is slipping or the wheels are spinning. 2 garages might say its not the clutch, but it is the clutch cos it cane be anything else. its simple physics. if it was an old volvo 340 with its belt drives then you could put it down to those, but its not, so it isnt.

+1above, clutch slipping, it might be related to the oily patch, having oil on the plate causing it to slip then bite, bouncing the revs. do you notice a burning smell after this has happened? You've had over 100k out of this clutch so not too unexpected?

Park the car on a steep hill

Put the car in 3rd gear and try to take away, with a slight increase in engine speed

It should stall right away

Always use a handbrake at traffic lights etc & you should check your brake fluid levels to see if clutch is losing fluid
