Hi Folks,

Trying to obtain some info on the above (fan/Drive belt tensioner). Was wondering how often these need to be replaced. Any thoughts on their availability/cost?

Easy job or a nightmare?

Car is a 1998 1.8 A4 petrol. Engine code ADR.

hi

the tensioner should be chnaged, when you have a cam belt changed because in my case i had the cam belt changed but then my tensionser sliped and split my belt.

So make sure that they change the tensioner when your change your cam belt.

cost around £300 for me in wales

Is there not a difference between the FAN Belt tensioner and the Cam Belt Tensioner?

well What steve done when he serviced my car is to check the other tensionser i think there bit smaller rubber one's.

but the main tensionser is the cam belt one which you can see it right in front of you when you open the bonnet. But its best to have them checked or chnage because the cam belt chnage is a big job.

The whole fron of the cars has to come apart so think how much labour you would have to pay just to change one tensioner.

hope this helps :beerchug:
