vcds which lead

hi all, im new here i have just bought an 04 plate a3 2.0 tdi, i have tried my vcds to read for codes but it doesnt seem to work, i used it all the time on my vw bora 51 plate and it worked fine but not on the audi could some one tell me if i need a different lead and if so point me in the right direction as to which one i need. thanks in advance

5 years ago I bought a cheap lead from Ebay. It gave me very limited functionality and even then was very temperamental. There were USB driver conflicts, modules were mostly not recognised and it never worked well.

Biting the bullet, I bought the official lead from Ross-Tech. It has performed flawlessly on my Passat, then an A4 and now a Golf ever since. Ross-tech support is excellent. Although the initial cost was high, the lead has paid for itself many times over.
