So iv been having mmi issues which i posted on a seperate thread, i have 3g high with nav, anyways after being given the run around by local so called specialists i paid audi for diagnostic (60). Waited almost 3 hours and technician came back with estimate for repair - faulty 5f module 2860 what the ****. Im sure they didnt take anything apart to check for loose connections so 3 hours to plug in their computer and diagnose.

The cars only worth 6k so paying that to get a fix is out of the question. I rang audi back up to get the part number so i could another on ebay or breaker but i cant believe they wouldnt give it to me, what a joke.

Im gna try and take the centre controls out as im sure i spilt some pepsi on there which i wiped clean a few months back. Im not good with cars so going to be a big job for me.

Where can i find a step by step guide to remove the centre console on my B8 and what tools are needed to give it a good clean. If this doesnt work can somebody please advise on how to take the 5f module out of the dash so i can get the part number to try snd find a replscement. I guess if i find one ill have to get CP removed from audi, another 150, any help would be appreciated this has gone on for too long, thanks

Yes, thats the result of dealer(new unit with install etc).

HNav mainunit in uk should be:

8T2035670(WITH SIM) and 8T2035666(NO SIM SLOT). You can get correct number from guy who did your first autoscan, he should have it, vcds module address 5F!

You need similar keys to take mainunit out:
http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/yVQAAOSwuTxWCCtV/s-l225.jpg

Sometimes if you lucky, you can cut those from "old plastic card(credit, debit etc) and you will get mainunit out also! (no warranty it will work always).

Remove centre console DIY:

This is how to remove the center console trim (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/321323-This-is-how-to-remove-the-center-console-trim)

5F controller is removed by 2 radio removal keys at the bottom, click them into it and the unit will pull out. There are various connections so be careful not to stretch anything especially the fibre optics.

The mmi control panel is removed by removing the gearstick gator then pull the console up from the bottom .. the panel will then be removed.

Hi sorry for late reply, been on holiday to get away from stress, your info was helpful and was easy to take the console out and clean, also able to get part number which is 8T2 035 666 D, one last help i need is that iv found replacement modules but the lettering is different so mine is D, i have found some that are E and F, does this make a difference, thanks

No, its not important, letter just gives idea about production date and software number. It will work regardless of letter! You can update it later anyway, link you find few threads below:)

Not sure how to disassemble.

As for the part number; you would be better off finding someone local to you with a VAGCOM diagnostic lead (or similar). A global scan will highlight the part numbers and software revisions of all of the control modules in the car. They might even see something that the VAG technicians missed as they chase faults rather than globally scanning all modules.

For example, this is mine (ignore the fault, I've fixed it now :D):

Curious what you did to fix yours as a couple of people who did diagnostic check with an older version of vcds said mine has software update management issue the same as yours

So i found a local garage who was breaking audi 2.7 not sure what year but same shape, thought id try my luck as could get this unit next to nothing, saw the shark fin on the car and got excited, the unit the car had was 8T2 035 110 C with no sd slots but cd changer buttons instead where my sd slots are. I just want to fix and sell, will this unit be compatable it was a panasonic unit? And the number at the end of my unit D dies this mean a unit that has E for example has newer software? thanks

This cd charger will work on your car, but you still need main unit also(it will not replace the main unit)! Sw management error usualy comes with sw and map updates and with small play in green menu also etc, its not dangerous fault and system will work regardless! With vcds and tweak of one adaption channel you can get rid of this, but its not important:)

I guess i understood it wrong its the main head unit that i found, is the cd changer seperate somwhere in the car, why couldnt you live close by gunnark you would have made my life so much easier, anyhow what do you advise me to do purchase the unit i have found or look for one that ends 666 then any number, do you think audi cant be ***** to look at what is causing the fault and have told me i need a new 5f module, will the new module i get need coding from audi or is their a way around this, i dont want to mess around updating software is the panasonic unit older or new than mine, when u say tweak ghe adaptation channel do you mean that someone could potentially fix the module that i have and the issue of freezing every 4 minutes could be resolved by the tweak, sorry if im repeating myself but want to be sure as to what i need to do and my brain is overload at the moment, thanks

1. Buy unit which is same as yours 8t2035666 regardless of the letter at the end it will work, it will make your car sell better, if you update system to the latest soft and maps, but its not something you must do!
2. Dont buy cd charger, because you need to install it to the glovebox and probably you need new glovebox insert also, if you dont have 2 shelfs there already, for 3G CD charger is useless weight anyway and no one will use it:)
3. Regarding your present system, if all you have in mainunit module regarding error, is the same fault as was posted here "software management" - forget, tweaking this error out, will not make your system work, this is useless error, which is not important and will not affect system to work!
4. If you replace mainunit, best is to get full coding from your old and paste it to the new unit with vcds, you need trip to audi anyway after that as "component protection" needs to be removed(new mainunit will be registered under your car vin so to say). Maybe you have some local hackers who can clone component protection with vcp from your old unit to the new, but probably no such people around you. Some independent garages have also vas tools and online connections, but probably you have to go to dealer(no idea about Sheffield car electronics specialists:))

It should work, as far i remember the front panel can be changed out if all have been done in proper way(if front panel was removed from this unit correctly and nothing there is broken, its a bit odd and strange, but never know what was real purpose that this unit has no front panel anymore, some people are using a6,a8,q7 main units swapping front panel to fit it to their a4,a5,q5, maybe its the case - no idea!

Sorry i cant say, its the front panel change easy or hard for you, i guess you will manage with it anyway, just take your time, sorry no instruction from me in this case, as i have not done such thing myself and dont remember any diy where is explained how to do this, but it was removed from the unit so you can fit yours there, if nothing will be broken etc! Ask from seller, how and why!
