Hi

I've got a 64 Plate A3 Automatic with 37000 miles . The indicator telling me I need an oil change and inspection came on and I've got about another 500 miles to go. Rang the dealer and was quoted £500+ for service and gearbox oil change. As I thought this a bit too much I found a local Audi specialist who quoted me a lot less for the service ; they use genuine Audi parts and the service is to Audi standard. When I asked if that included the automatic gearbox oil change he said that it didn't need doing as there was no filter involved yet the Audi site refers to oil and filter change. I'm totally confused but I don't want to invalidate my warranty. Can someone help me out please?

When i got my A6 serviced (big service) with gearbox oil change and filter change it was about £575, I thought it was good value considering a new gearbox is about £8k. Also if there is any updates etc they will be done at the time of the service.
I believe all multitronic/tiptronic/tiptronic gearboxes need an oil change around the 38k miles mark. I would pay to get it done if I was you

I would have it changed. Look in your service book for the schedule for your model.....it should state any transmission services required.

The S-tronic needs an oil change every 38,000 miles. Don't miss it.

Thank you for all of your responses. Having received an email telling me that the gear box oil needed to be changed I booked the car in for a service and gear box oil change as the service indicator started the countdown to oil change and inspection.

I then got an email back from the Dealer Service Dept telling me that that the gearbox is a sealed unit and no oil change is needed.
So you can appreciate my confusion.
Saying that I'm looking to change the car shortly.
