Cheat device rectification

As part of the emissions cheating scandal, I have been notified to take my car into an Audi dealer for the free rectification.
My car is a 2010 A3 sportback 1.6 diesel. Has anyone had this done & is the performance or fuel consumption affected?

There's been some longish running threads on this:

and some discussion around EGR valve failures on the 1.6 after the update has been applied.
I've advised a fmily member with 2 litre 140 engine not to get it done.

If it was possible to achieve the figures without cheating...

The present torque , bhp , mpg , smooth running , reliability
( if you can call modern VAG reliable ) , something has to give...
