View Full Version : Possible thermostat issue?

I know its cold out there but my A6 seems to take ages for the temperature gauge to start climbing.
Having started the car last night and driven around town for 6-7 miles it was still less than 70C. All cars I have had in recent years get up to temperature quickly so I suspect the thermostat may be stuck open causing the coolant to go through the radiator and keep cold. Am I being paranoid or is this normal behaviour for a 2.0TDi C7?

Although there is some contradictory info, this thread might help:

Hi I have a late 2015 2L ultra and yes in this cold weather it takes quite a few miles to get to normal on the gauge, heater works fine. Do not think you have a problem see what happens when the weather improves.

thanks. Seems to be the norm for these cars then even if its not the norm for all cars.

On my 12 mile journey to work it only just gets warm and that's only cox I have a long climb on mile 7 to work. during summer months its fine and warms up within 4 miles but from beginning of December its been cool and only just getting warm. Heaters work fine.

Same over here with a 2.0 tdi pre facelift. It's a normal thing.
