View Full Version : How To Upgraded washer jets

M1tchy
02-01-2017, 09:21 PM
Found on the A6 part of the forum that newer cars are coming with washer jets that spray a mist rather than the normal 3 jets.

I bought a set last week and they are much better. They cover the whole window in a fine mist and seem to clean better as the fluid covers the whole window.

Part numbers are 4G0955987A & 4G0955988A. They are a direct swap and easy to adjust with a torq bit screw driver.

Thanks M1tchy, I hate the existing 3 jet washers and can never get them to cover the whole screen. Where did you buy yours and what did they cost. I am seeing a huge price variation.

Me too. Really missed them when I had them on my insignia.

I got them new from Audi. They were £7 something each plus VAT. Got both for less than £20 and about 60 secs to fit.

Is that the heated ones?, need that here in Norway.
Do you happens to have the part #?

Yes these are the heated ones mate.

I bought another set yesterday for the wife's A5 (exactly the same fitting) so will take a few pics - it's probably not needed though.

Fitted them to my wife's A5 this morning. Same part number and exactly the same fitting.

This is the view from the front of the jet. The screw on the right adjusts the height of the spray.

They are also marked L + R so you know which side they go on.

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/mitchy1408/486C66FC-2A2B-4C56-88EF-877E50B282A4_zpsymsrcv83.jpg (http://s1009.photobucket.com/user/mitchy1408/media/486C66FC-2A2B-4C56-88EF-877E50B282A4_zpsymsrcv83.jpg.html)

To remove the old ones, open the bonnet, the pull the old nozzles from the front in a pendulum motion. They only move as far as in the pic. Then remove it.

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/mitchy1408/EF1E012C-A26B-410A-B4FD-57A73FA25BA5_zpsuxahwtzf.jpg (http://s1009.photobucket.com/user/mitchy1408/media/EF1E012C-A26B-410A-B4FD-57A73FA25BA5_zpsuxahwtzf.jpg.html)

Next remove the connection for the fluid. Slide the plastic retainer back about half a cm making sure it doesn't ping off and the pipe then comes off.

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/mitchy1408/2D643D41-019B-42AF-933F-E331D1E44A26_zpskcx01ace.jpg (http://s1009.photobucket.com/user/mitchy1408/media/2D643D41-019B-42AF-933F-E331D1E44A26_zpskcx01ace.jpg.html)

Next is the electrical connection for the nozzle heater. Slightly lift the clip and pull the plug so it comes off.

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af211/mitchy1408/CA0EF591-2EA2-4DB3-8EB4-CC29EB648B69_zps5ra3ogfd.jpg (http://s1009.photobucket.com/user/mitchy1408/media/CA0EF591-2EA2-4DB3-8EB4-CC29EB648B69_zps5ra3ogfd.jpg.html)

Install in reverse order and test. The height of the jets can be adjusted with the bonnet closed.

And this is them working. I've also added a system called heatshot which heats the washer fluid hence the steam after a few seconds.

I can't see why not mate. It's an A6 part number that I've posted and they fit the A7 (63 plate) and A5 (12 plate)

Just fitted a set on my wife's Q5 2014. I will now order a set for the A7 2011. Interesting that it produces a stream as well as a spray. Excellent upgrade though.

M1tchy

The steam is produced by fitting a system called heatshot, it sits between the washer fluid tank and the jets and acts a mini kettle. Heats the water to 62 degrees in 15-20 seconds and gives 6-8 seconds of hot water.

Excellent post M1tchy! The steam blast looks excellent for this time of year to help get rid of frost and ice instead of getting the scraper out!
Was it easy finding a suitable place to mount the Heatshot in the A7 engine compartment and doing all the plumbing (both waterworks and electrical?)
A few more photo's under the A7 hood would be much appreciated for what looks like a popular weekend project for many of us chaps on here!

Tnx M1tchy :-)
You did however forget to make a "how to"
for the heated thingy.
Do you plan to install this to the A7 as well?

M1tchy
06-01-2017, 09:31 AM
I haven't got the heatshot in the A7, only the A5 at the moment. It's a really small unit so plenty of space and quite easy to fit. I'm really tempted to fit one to the A7 but also want to buy another batch of parts for my kit car. Decisions decisions. Will take some pics of the A5 install later.

I think we're all working on the basis that the most sprays have never been standard on A7s. I've got a 2016 car and I'm going to change mine (which has a fairly generous spray) to the mist type.

Agreed - I've just done the swap and the spray coverage is very similar. I'll leave the 'new' nozzles on for a while and see if they clear the screen any better in a variety of conditions.

I have now fitted my Heat shot and thought i'd post a few pictures. This is the view under the plastic scuttle panel, it's quite full under there but there is enough room to fit it.
32471

I fitted it to the bulkhead on the passenger side next to the air intake for the fan:
3247232473

I then carefully threaded the large power and earth over to the drivers side where there is a handy earth block to attach to:

Goodeone
31-01-2017, 05:15 PM
I then ran the live forward to the jump start terminal and attached it to the copper block:

3247732478

I then cut open the braiding just below the Heatshot and found a red with white line wire that was 13v live with the ignition and 0v when the car was switched off. I spliced into this wire and fitted the supplied 3amp fuse inline then insulated it and wrapped it all back up:
3248032481

I then tidied up the cables with cable ties and refitted the plastic panel:
32483

All that was left was to connect up the water lines to and from the Heatshot.

Goodeone
31-01-2017, 05:26 PM
I opened the plastic conduit that holds the water pipe on the right side Bonnet hinge and cut it in two. I then connected the input for the Heatshot to the output of the washer pump and then the output of the Heatshot to the washer jets with the supplied rubber pipe and adaptors:
3248532486

All finished and working.
