Hi all

My niece has a Touareg with the 2.5 4 cylinder diesel engine 2003 year

Runs and drives great but recently it is putting the MIL lamp on and gives the warning beep

I have read the fault code P0571 (with Snap On Ethos my vagcom lead has stopped working)

Code read is P0571 - Brake switch implausible signal - intermittent

I have replaced the brake light switch, but within in a few hours the fault returned

Any help is appreciated

i am presuming you have checked the brake lights are working.... i had a passat, same or similar code and no lights. replaced the switch, exactly the same. old switch back in, 2 new bulbs, job done. code cleared never to return.

Where did the switch come from and did you install it pedal up or pedal down?

Hi All,

To give a little more information, this is my nieces car and she live's near Southend on Sea (I live in Nuneaton) so all of this is been done long distance

I am not sure what make of switch or the position of the switch (I have asked but not had an answer as yet), she took the car to a local garage and had them fit the switch and clear the fault code, they also fitted a set of glow plugs.

The car is still running ok but recently the MIL lamp is on and gives the warning beep fault code P0571 still present and the Green Auto box symbol please see photo is light and some times it will not move from Park to Drive?

Summary MIL/Glowplug light on, Green auto box light on and the car will not change from Park to Drive (the only way to get it to move from Park to Drive is to stop and restart the engine this can take several goes

Is there anyone local to where my niece lives with Vagcom?

Thanks for all the help

With code

16955 (P0571) - Brake Light Switch (F): Implausible Signal

after a new switch has been fitted my assumption would be that the switch has been incorrectly fitted, there are two ways depending on the part number of the switch.

Hi we think the switch came from Eurocarparts

How many switches are there on the brake pedal?

The genuine VW number for the switch is 7L6 945 511 and these cost £13.60, ECP offer this in four different numbers of three distinctly different design variations by two different manufactures, we need to know which one they fitted,

Hi

I have passed details 'The genuine VW number for the switch is 7L6 945 511' on to my niece she's going to order one from a local VW garage where she lives.

What will the correct fitment procedure be?

The correct procedure for this version of switch is pedal up in the rest position.

Hi Crasher - Happy New Year to you and all :)

With the pedal in the up position, should the protruding rod on the switch be pulled all the way out before fitting?

So as the switch is fitted in to position the rod is pushed back in?

Thanks

Definitely don't pull out the rod. Fit like Crasher said pedal up in rest position turn to the right until you hear a small click this activates the switch in the correct position and thus allows continuity through the switch. You only get one chance at fitting this switch correctly so absolutely don't mess with the rod.

Yep, don't fiddle with it, just twist to fit. Even then having done hundreds and only using genuine I still get the odd one that fails instantly.

Brilliant thanks all

My niece as got the switch from VW and is coming up to see me next weekend, so I guess that's her way of asking me to fit it
