this passat has been nothing but hastle, it will soon be time to stop chucking money at it..

are the gearboxes on the 1.9 tdi sports known to have problems? while in gear with foot off throttle or foot down it makes whirl type sound, that goes away when its free wheeling in neutral

It's only because it's a FRK .

I've one at 176k without issues .

The FRK is a VW copy of the Getrag ELN , either get a ELN or 2.5 V6 TDI DQS .

Persevere these older Passats are much more reliable .
