Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI Ultra - Recommended Engine Oil

I took my Audi A6 Avant 2.0 Ultra S-Tronic for an engine oil and filter change (although only 1,500 miles, I always change the oil after the engine has been run in) at a local Audi specialist and they used Castrol Edge 5W-30. The car takes VW 507 00 oil, as per the Owner's Manual, and with my car I also received one litre of Shell Helix Ultra oil, which is 0W-30. I checked online to find which Castrol Oils are compatible with the VW 507 00 specification and Edge 5W-30 seems to be it. However, searching for recommended oil for my car on Shell's website it says I should use 0W-30. Now in the UK the temperatures are not that cold as on the continent, but it is still interesting to hear other people's comments as to whether 0W-30 or 5W-30 is recommended.

I was looking for some 0W-30 for oil change and the Shell stuff then was either really expensive or hard to find.i rang dealers parts team to see what they were selling and they were selling the Shell oil at a reasonable price.

Managed to buy a 4 or 5 litre container online in the end of the Shell oil so stuck with 0W-30.

Does mean I have a shed load of 5W-30 kicking about from the previous car [emoji23]
