In Audi A6 C5.

Since cold weather of last few weeks, power problems progressively worsening.
Now, starts reliably, but within a minute stalls when applying accelerator; if left to idle, white smoke increases. Consequently have abandoned use for fear of getting stranded.
Before all this it had started to stall in traffic and once or twice seemed to lose turbo power.

When these problems got worse, engine would occasionally growl with acceleration giving zero extra power, although if given legs power was there as normal.

Had fuelled with BP Ultimate last 100 litres, although this coincided with colder weather.

Any help gratefully received.

You need to get it scanned for fault codes, then post them with the three letter engine code and details of servicing and any engine related repairs, this code is on the car data page in the service book or the boot sticker. any diagnosis or recommendation to fix/change any parts is guess work until you get it scanned. the fault could any of several engine sensors, or a mechanical problem; dirty fuel filter, worn tandem pump, in tank fuel pump etc.

Thank you for your reply, I got a mechanic out who determined that the exhaust was congested at the head end (removing it at the engine connection solved the stalling issue)
