I'm 59 and have had several new cars and bikes over the years but they have all been ordered straight from the showroom floor and taken home within a week.

I am now in a situation where I will have to wait until February before I can see my new vehicle but obviously the benefits are that it will be what I have chosen (well with a bit of input from 'her indoors').

For the past 5 years I have been driving a Discovery 4 and the fact that I have never owned a car for that length of time says a lot about a Disco 4!

Anyway, time for a change and I have ordered a 218ps A6 Quattro Avant.

Trying to decide what vehicle to buy was a bit daunting, especially as we were initially looking at 2litre engines, basically for the tax band and economy. To be honest none we drove really floated our boat, and then I saw that Audi did an 'in between' engine that seemed to offer what I wanted, enough grunt to pull a twin axle caravan, economy, and with a bit of performance. We had a test drive in a 2litre Avant and was suitably impressed to order one of it's big brothers!

Its easy to get carried away with extras (didn't intend Quattro at first) but here is the full spec ordered:

A6 Avant SE Executive 3.0 TDI Quattro 218ps S tronic
Diamond Beige metallic
Atlas beige/brown interior
Adaptive air suspension
Audi matrix LED headlights
Bose surround sound
Comfort seats with memory
Door mirrors electrically folding
Parking pack
Privacy glass
Tow bar
Valcona leather

Can't wait!

Hi there. I am also a convert from a Discovery 4 - had originally intended to replace my 2010 HSE with a later year but couldn't get over the price of even 2013 cars - and they didn't feel that much better than mine. So I got a 2015 Allroad (same engine as yours) which was only 18 months old and 15k miles on the clock for just under £30k! - an equivalent age/mileage D4 would have set me back at least £10k more!
OK the Allroad is not nearly as capable off-road of course and doesn't have the cavernous luggage space but it is a very very competent vehicle - I get better than 40mpg everywhere (real world - not DIS - although that is a great deal more accurate than the Disco's lie-o-meter!) and there is plenty of space and power for our needs.
I hope you will be as pleased with your choice as I am!:beerchug:

Not quite an Audi virgin. In the 80s when the only Audi that was well known was THE Audi Quattro I had a red 90 Quattro.

I had just visited a Mercedes dealer and looked at the 190 but the fact that I was wearing jeans didn't seem to go down with the 'salesperson' and his attitude didn't go down well with me, so we left and went to the Audi dealership and I saw this red car on the car park and decided there and then that was what I wanted. It was the managers car, but a couple of hours later it was mine!

That lasted until we took ownership of two bull mastiffs so it was traded in for an 1800 100cc Avant, a practical car but...........

Lets hope that my new Avant will excite me more than my last!

Congratulations. Nice car!

You will love the comfort seats as well as the Valcona Leather. The adaptive suspension is another big hit IMO.

Nice spec! If you get delivery in February you will beat the change in VED which come in on 1st April, saving a fortune in tax. I ordered my new one in August (12 weeks ago today), and it's currently sat at the docks in Germany, so overall delivery should be about 14 weeks 'ish' if it arrives in the next couple of weeks. I expect any factory orders placed after New Year will be delivered after the VED change.

Added to my original spec are the tech pack and ambient lighting. That's definately it as I've been told the build week is now 50!!

Cripes, better start getting the money together!

Looking at winter wheels and tyres and am seriously looking at Dezent Re with Nokian WR D4 tyres from Mytyres.

Just received Momo Quantum Evo wheels shod with Goodyear Ultragrip performance winter tyres. I've also bought a Hatchbag boot liner.

Only one thing missing.....?....

Great news!

I am quite looking forward seeing a pic of it and your colour choice. A very rare colour indeed (never seen it here in Germany). Is it an Exclusive paint?

No, it is a metallic option.

I haven't knowingly seen one 'live' so fingers crossed. I believe (hoping) that the privacy glass wil really show the colour off.

yes, the privacy glass should draw the eye towards the colour.

If anybody lives in Grimsby can you nip down to t'docks and check on my baby?

Suppose it's too much to hope she'll be delivered to the dealers before Christmas, but can't really complain as it was only ordered on the 7th of November.

So, did you collect your new toy yet? You need to put up some pics so we can see this colour!

Would love to some some pickies up but unfortunately the weather hasn't been that kind so the car has been filthy since picking it up.

First impressions are high indeed. The car looks class (down to my colour choice no doubt) and the privacy glass certainly adds to this.

The reason I chose the executive was due to the wheel size as it is comfort I was after. I suspect that the air suspension has something to do with it as the ride is absolutely heavenly. I've heard stories of the ride in the older Jaguars being sublime as you just waft along, well that is exactly what we are getting, with speed humps no more than a very minor inconvenience that to be honest wouldn't even wake you up!

Yet to fully test the matrix LEDs, but it is obvious the spread of light is enormous, and with the ' all weather ' lights on it is daylight from 180 degrees of the drivers position. Do these lights just point straight out? Is it alright to drive with these on all the time as I can see a major benefit on all roads?

So far then I would definitely recommend the LED headlights, the air suspension, the comfort seats with Valcona leather (beautiful to the touch). Next would be the Bose surround, the tech pack and the parking pack.

The ambient lighting is just a touch of classy bling, and I like it!
