Hi all newb question but my Passat no longer gets up to 90 degrees engine temp just hovers round 60/70 and the mpg seems to have dropped according to computer, the heater still pumps out warm air but to be honest it's never been a great heater so wondering if it's the thermostat that's had it and if so what sort of money to replace ? Many thanks

Nick

Coolant temp sensor.
If you're getting heat from the heater I doubt the stat is stuck open. You would hardly get any heat.
The drop in MPG coincides with the colder weather.
Personally i would change the CTS and see.

yes, change CTS as it's easy and cheap. If that doesn't make a difference do the thermostat. Use a genuine VAG one. I made mistake of buying a europarts one, only got to 86 degrees not 90. Its a pain to change so do once for sake of an extra £10-15. Temp diff made 3-4mpg difference

Whilst it is drained down do BOTH the CTS and the stat. They both fail with alarming regularity.

Unless of course you like buying antifreeze and doing the same job (drain down) twice.

had similar prob on my AWX. After no success with temp sensor swap I'm going to do the thermostat when I can find the time.
