s4 gearbox trouble, has me baffled...

i have a w plate s4 covered around 70k and its developed a really weird gearbox problem that no mechanic ive found can seem to put their finger on!!
if i drive steady all gears 1-6 hit first time no probs, if i give it any even a little i cannot get it in gear until the revs drop.
2nd & 3rd seem to be worse than the others but as i said when driven steady you would never know.

1st garage said clutch and £1300 pls

2nd garage (audi speciaist i have used before) said maybe syncros could be screwed but have no real idea.

anyone had this before or anything like it?? im stuck in the company focus ffs until this is sorted so i really need the help lol

syncros would cause poor meshing all the time so that leaves 2 options oil or clutch.It looks like the box is coing out anyway so get them to inspect the clutch and take it from there.
