Hi there, I got my a6 avant black edition on the 14th sept, been great, but about 3 weeks ago I went to drive away, I put the car into drive, put my foot down and then got a message on the dis saying "Please press brake pedal and select gear again"
When I do this it works ok and drives fine. It must have happened about 5 times in the last 3 weeks. Is it something I'm doing? Also it only has happened with the drive gear never with reverse.

I got my A6 Black Edition on 23rd September and have never seen this message in 1,700 miles.

Thanks for the reply, I've only just hit 700 miles in mine. It's going in to the dealers on Thursday. Think it must be electrics as the gearbox itself seem to run perfectly smooth.
I would assume if there is a message on the dis it would be logged so an engineer can see a fault code.
Will let you know what they say

Yes seat belt is on.
It happened to the wife yesterday, she reversed (car went back) then put car into drive and got no movement just the message, she pressed the brake, selected neutral then straight back into drive, and away it went.

It could be a sensor or solenoid. Normally you can't engage drive without foot on the brake, you should feel the solenoid move when your foot is on the brakes.

picked the car up this afternoon, garage have had to order a new part, said there is a modified, part something to do with the wiring of the gearbox, the part has had to go on back order but hopefully early next week.
was told its a known problem on the new models and new part is fitted on all new ones as they come of the production line from now on, but some of the first run will need modding.
seems strange to me that only some cars may show the issue.
