Hi all,

I recently bought a 2010 vw scirocco 2.0tdi cr140 and would like to have it remapped but I would also like to have the ability to flash back to original when needed and vice versa.
The one option I have is to buy something like a viezu v-switch or bluefin which will do what I need but I don't like the idea of a generic map, I would prefer a proper custom remap.
So I was wondering whether I could buy an smps tool to save the original ECU file, get the car remapped then save the modified ECU file and flash between them when needed if this is possible?
I have no idea how to find out what ECU I have and have found conflicting information online about flashing bosch edc17 (pretty sure I have that ECU) ecu's and them needing to be removed and safebooted or something because of tuning protection, which I do not want to do, so my question is what is my best option?
Is there any way I can get a custom remap and be able to switch back and forth from original to modified?
Or is something like the viezu v-switch a good option, are their generic maps actually any good?
Hopefully someone on here more knowledgeable on this subject than me can shed some light on this because I can't seem to find the information I need to decide what to do.
Any help would be appreciated.

why do you want to be able to remove the map ?

To be honest my concern is not really removing the map it's putting it back on if it was ever wiped by an update at VW as a friend has had that happen in the past.

i would just get it mapped by someone that knows what they are doing. generally if the map does get wiped then it can be re installed for free but check with the mapper first.

Ah ok I didn't realise it could be put back on for free. Only issue then is the places I have been looking at aren't local. Know of any good tuners around the West Midlands area?

Why is there this misconception of a custom is better than generic ?

A properly developed generic file can done using several staff over a few identical cars over a long time and experiencing different seasons thus temperatures . A complete transformation of the torque curve can take place .

A custom is performed in one day sometimes just a few hours relying on the skill of just 1 person who may of been drinking heavily the night before !

At worse they may just copy and exaggerate the original torque spikes worts 'n all which is from a dyno graph plot point of view the same as a tuning box of frogs .

This is why I ask, are viezu's maps any good?
I've always believed that a custom remap would be better due to the fact that it's specific to your car. From what I have seen, professional remaps achieve better figures and torque/bhp curves than any generic map but I am happy to be proven wrong.
