I have recently acquired a 1989 90 20V quattro to replace my 91 80 2.0E.The diff lock switch by the handbrake illuminates with ignition but when I press it nothing seems to happen, no additional light comes on (should one come on?) and the drive feel stays the same, help please

It should come on at speeds up to 15mph, at 15mph it should disengage. a green? led should light up when it is active. It is driven by vacuum to an actuator on the diff, maybe a wiring problem or a vacuum leak?

Thank you,scotty33.Is the green light by the handbrake or on the dashboard?

It is on the 'drivetrain schematic' by the handbrake. If I remember right, the led is where the rear diff would be. Hope you enjoy your new car!

hi
when it works it also imobilises the abs which is indicated by the dash light coming on
faults are normally sticky actuater on diff or vac pipe split quite often in the engine bay it comes from the manifold behind the battery and into the bulk head hope this helps
