Hi all, I have recently purchased an a3 tdi 140 on a 06 plate, so it has been fine but it has started to make a really loud rattling noise every now and then, it doesnt do it all the time, but when it does it is really loud, it goes away when i accelerate, i have recorded the noise on my phone but dont know how to upload a video to hear, its difficult to tell where the noise is coming from. it is a really tinny sounding noise, anyone come across something similar ???

Yes, I have this on mine (61 plate). The garage had a look but could not find anything. It's in for cam belt on MOT on the 10th and I have asked them to find it then as my wife refuses to drive the car with it. It seems to be coming from the rear driver's side.

Exhaust hanger bracket loose.
Well, I have had the MOT and cambelt done today and they had a search for the noise. Seems it was my fault in allowing the tyre fitters to change the rear brake pads (was too convenient). They was a spring loose in there, which also explained the "clunking" noise when using the brakes while reversing. Think that I'll stick with them for tyres in future.
